Our Story: Calgary's First Community-Funded Restaurant in Inglewood
Madi's 12|12 was co-founded by Jared Salekin and Pieter Boekhoff, two Calgary entrepreneurs with a vision to create more than just a restaurant — they set out to build a true community hub in the city's oldest neighbourhood. The concept began as a mobile food truck serving craft nachos and salads at Calgary festivals and events, building a loyal following long before the brick-and-mortar location opened.
In 2017, the duo made history by launching Calgary's first community-funded restaurant — inviting local investors to back the project in exchange for perks like "Nachos for Life" and having their name inscribed on a seat in the restaurant. The funding model ultimately combined community investment with traditional bank loans. Madi's officially opened in July 2017 as a 71-seat eatery with a 49-seat patio in the heart of Inglewood.
Today, Madi's 12|12 is one of Inglewood's most beloved and recognised dining destinations. The eclectic, modern-casual space is a fusion of café culture, craft bar, and inventive kitchen — known for over a dozen creative craft nacho varieties, build-your-own poke bowls, seasonal brunch, craft cocktails, local craft beer, and an extensive coffee menu. Its heated, enclosed patio makes it a true year-round destination, and weekly specials like Taco Tuesday and Wing Wednesday keep the community coming back.
At Madi's 12|12, we believe great food and beautiful spaces can bring people together and inspire lasting memories. Our mission is to share beautiful, functional spaces, delicious food, and inventive drinks with the communities we serve — a place to eat, work, create, and connect in the heart of Inglewood.
